
The Botanical Bridges Congress is normally held every two years and is hosted by an institution within the region.
Where possible, the Caribbean and Central American Botanic Gardens (CCABG) Network seeks a broad geographical distribution of Congress locations to encourage participation from across the region. Previous Congresses have been hosted in:
- Panama City, Panama (2016)
- Havana, Cuba (2018)
- Eleuthera, Bahamas (2022)
- Cartagena, Colombia (2024)
- Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (2026)
Selection Process
- Call for Applications
Interested institutions must submit an application by August 31, 2026. - Shortlisting of Candidates
The CCABG Network Coordinator, in consultation with the BGCI Congress Committee, will review all applications and prepare a shortlist of potential hosts. - Notification of Shortlisted Institutions
Shortlisted candidates will be notified by the CCABG Network Coordinator by September 30, 2026. - Virtual Interviews
Representatives of shortlisted institutions will participate in an online interview with the CCABG Network Coordinator and members of the BGCI Congress Committee in October 2026. - Selection and Approval
Following the interviews, the CCABG Network Coordinator and BGCI Congress Committee will select and approve the host institution for the 2028 Botanical Bridges Congress in November 2026. - Announcement of the Host
The successful host institution will be announced through the CCABG Network Newsletter and the BGCI News page in January 2027.
